A carbon Dioxide (CO2) sink is a carbon reservoir that is increasing in size. The rain forest is losing its ability to soak up carbon dioxide from the air, so the trees have been dying at and incredible rate for the last 2 years. Since this is happening we cant predict the effects of climate change. Forests play a very important role in maintaining the global carbon budget, they suck up 2.4 billion metric tons of carbon every year. Climate change should be helping forests take in more carbon dioxide since increased levels of gas and warming temperatures should helping trees grow. Roel Brienen says that one possible reason why the trees are dying off is that "Since it is warmer and there is more CO2 the trees are growing faster, but faster growth makes the trees die younger. That's because faster growing trees tend to invest less energy in defenses against produce wood that is less dense, so they may be more susceptible to sickness or falling over."
Population Of People
The Population of people in the Temperate Rain Forest Biome is 500,000 The largest temperate rain forest are found on the Pacific coast of North America. They stretch from Oregon to Alaska for 1,200 miles. Smaller temperate rain forests can be found on the southeast coast of Chile in South America.
Deforestation
Deforestation is the process of removing trees in order to make the land available for other man uses. These uses include: Land for urban company's, use of oil located in the trees, making paper, use of lumber to burn, etc. The Temperate Rain forest millions of trees are being cut down faster than the can grow back. Both people and animals depend on large forest across the globe to supply the earth's population with oxygen. These trees are important in removing greenhouse gasses from the atmosphere, Deforestation leads to larger amounts of greenhouse gasses, increasing global warming.
